The Premiere

BAD START TO THE DAY!

OK so I was supposed to be meeting Lisa at 9.30 at the train station at 9.00 I wake up hit my alarm in a stress (either the alarm didn't go off or I slept right through it grrrr) I ring Lisa tell her I'll be about an hour or so late (oopsies) what a great start to the day! After showering getting dressed doing make up etc. I start to get my bag ready! Now where's that camera? I know it's there somewhere so I tear the entire room apart looking for it and then find it happily sitting on my TV where I put it so I would know where it was! god I'm an idiot!

About and hour and half late I eventually arrive at the train station meet Lisa and go to get my train to London guess what happens? yes indeed the train is delayed, so we get the service to Watford Junction instead and hope to change there. We get to Watford Junction and guess what? The other train from Watford Junction is delayed too oh wow what a great start to the day could it be an omen? are we really just on our way to stand out in the cold all day and not see anybody? Looks like it could be!

WE'RE IN LONDON

Yes at last we make it to London we get to Leicester Square about 11.45, promptly go into Burger King for our kids meals and get. LEGOLAS wow things are looking up! that's 2 Legolas toys as I get Lisa's too coz I paid for her meal yay! Walk into the square see the Odeon surrounded by cranes and stuff at which point I look at the top of the crane to see it putting up the last part of the HUGE LOTR poster and when I say HUGE I mean HUGE. Go to see where a good place to stand is get stopped by Lisa just as I'm about to walk under a ladder "Oh no you don't want to do that" she says. I thought about it for a minute and decided that bearing in mind the start of my day this was not a good idea so decide to go the other way.

We find a nice position in front of the doors near a fence but away from the cranes, start eating my kids meal and admiring my toy and then get caught by a Swedish journalists asking if we are there for LOTR do an interview for her and answer all her questions and make myself look intelligent, I go back to my meal and look on at the woman interviewing Lisa. Now this is funny, "So are you a big LOTR fan then?" the journalist asks. "Actually I've just started reading the books but they're good so far" In fact Lisa has literally only just started reading the books and is only just finding out about the ring in the shadow of the past. The journalist thanks us and walks off looking for someone else to interview (probably hoping to find someone who's read a bit more than Lisa)

Decide that being as it isn't too cold it is probably a good idea to take my coat off so I will have it to put on when it gets colder as it's sure to do. The Swedish journalist finishes interview her next person and walks pass spots my tattoo and immediately asks to film me again! now if you could just move over her and we'll film you in fact no if you could just stand in front of the doors here, do my little "yes it's the ring inscription" then wait for the cranes to move away so I can take my pics of the HUGE poster.

THE PRESS SHOWING

The press showing which had been going on without me even knowing it kicks out and suddenly the square is full of people with rather grim faces? What was it really that bad? No in fact the people I spoke to said it was great seems all these journalists were more irritated with the fact they now have to write good reviews uh-oh they have to compliment people that's got hurt. Spot a couple standing with their press pack in their hand, ask to look at it and quickly flick through and get all the info I can from the two people. they don't give much away (well it was worth a try) but both say they liked it and it was fantastic. Give them their booklet back and spot Jonathan Ross walk through the square

THE INTERVIEWS

The Swedish journalist comes back and asks me if I know how much black market tickets are going for, say I have no idea but think it would probably be a hell of a lot and she leaves again. A couple of girls join us and ask what time it's starting, turns out one of them is an American student and the other likes Orlando quite a bit (yay an Orli fan) Another guy comes over and asks me what time it starts (seems I have somehow become the knowledge girl of Leicester Square) tell him it should be around 7.30 ish and he then informs me he has just been in that press showing and in fact is an employee of Games Workshop and shows me some of the little figures he has in his pocket. He then complains about how he only got to go to the press showing but how his boss is going to the actual premiere, I just glare and complain how I'd be happy seeing it either way. I ask him about the movie and about Arwen and Boromir and the ending etc. and he actually tells me a few things (see I knew it was worth a try)

Big Issue seller walks past selling Big issue (obv) with LOTR covers cue search for money to buy one from everyone around me. Italian TV guy notices my tattoo and asks for an interview cue "yes it's the ring inscription, it's real it means..."

AT LAST BARRIERS

At last the barriers arrive and lots of big strong men begin setting up the barriers as soon as they're up I take my place ion the front row directly in front of the doors, with press setting up to left and right of the doors I figure this is a great position and refuse to move (ain't nobody getting my spot). At about 4.30 I figure it would be a good idea to run to the toilet now so as not have to complain all night make all my mates spread out into my position and run off to Burger king figure I may as well get lunch whilst I'm there and get a Saruman toy with my meal this time! Start chatting to the girl behind us and realise she is in fact a TORN messageboard regular wahey!

The press start ding there rounds get caught by more people after the guy next to me keeps telling reporters about my tattoo, cue "yes it is the ring inscription blah blah blah..." god this is getting familiar. Spot a rather nice TV presenter cue the "are you single? no? are you sure?" He ask us all to scream for the camera ack how irritating! D a few thousand more times before they say that it's OK, He tells us he had interviewed Orlando the day before and he has been ill. Awww poor Orli.

The poster boards are attached to the barriers, I immediately claim the one in front of me and plan on getting it signed. At around 5.30is they light the 10 rings they've been playing with all day it looks very cool with the posters in the background find it particularly funny that although they are all gas powered the guys are lighting them with cigarette lighters. The soundtrack also starts playing over the speakers.

CELEBRITIES

At last at around 6.00 the celebs begin to arrive John Rhys Davies arrives we all get excited, guy standing next to me asks who he is, I just shout that's Gimli you fool and begin to reel of half his filmography. Christopher Lee and Ian Holm follow closely I am particularly impressed with Ian Holm he is just so small and cute he actually looks just like a hobbit.

Next up I get all excited as Sean Astin arrives with his wife followed rather quickly by Elijah Wood much to my delight followed by Billy and Dominic, spot Billy along way down signing autographs he moves his way up towards us signing as he goes along, gets about 5 feet away from me when I decide right lets get some attention and shout at him he looks recognises me (wow the guy meets me once and recognises me I am impressed) Ask Billy to sign my poster thingy on the barrier suddenly realising Dominic has moved up and is now on my left hand side, get rather torn trying to decide who to look at and ask for autographs. ask Dom how his birthday was to which he replied "It was great thanks but I'm feeling a bit ill now" aww poor Dom. Dominic actually looks amazingly good in PURPLE suit and ORANGE tie never seen purple look that good before. Elijah walks back out Dom and Billy run over they all hug and look so cute together and pose for the press. Dominic and Billy turn around and take pictures of the crowd on their little cameras (how cute)

A few random celebs I either don't recognise or have no interest in walk past suddenly realise Sean Astin has come back out and is signing autographs in the corner to my left, suddenly hear more screams from fans further down and see Peter Jackson (in trousers doh) and Viggo Mortensen walking up. PJ poses for the press and Viggo wanders in without even posing, looked like the press had no idea who he was.

Next up Ian Mckellan followed by Liv Tyler Liv looks stunning in a red suit take a few piccies for Sam in Barli's so he can stop whinging at me. Elijah comes back out to have pictures taken with Liv and Ian. As I look to my left and see him yes it is in fact Orlando Bloom wow he's looking good and has a date but it's OK coz it's an old woman who we guess is his grandmother he very caringly walks up arm in arm with her and helps her inside before coming out to the fans. At which point Elijah notices him and jumps on him. They look incredibly pleased to see each other, Orli and Liv hug and greet each other, pose for even more pictures then head in.

Lots of other celebrities arrive, Brian May, Graham Norton, Frank Skinner, Hearsay , get told of by the policeman for saying I don't like Hearsay (apparently it is now a crime to not like a band who have done nothing for themselves) laugh at the policeman and spot Sean Bean making his way up the crowd. Start shouting at him and the policeman seems to give up and wanders off. More minor celebrities then Enya she's much smaller than I imagined but looks wonderful in a black dress she chats to the press then comes over and signs my poster board.

HEY DON'T I KNOW YOU?

More minor celebrities then my A1 boys, quickly get Mark's attention and he looks rather surprised to see me there, says he'll see us after and heads in. The doors then close the press start packing up, we start burning the tags holding the poster boards on the barriers in an attempt to get them off, manage it eventually. The police start ordering us all to move so they can get rid of the barriers. Wander off through Leicester Square with our huge poster boards happily.

SO NOW WHAT?

Bump into some fans dressed as characters from the movie, By far the worst Legolas I've ever seen in my life. We walk around Leicester square realise the trailer and the May It Be video is playing on the huge screen and stop to watch. 3 of us start discussing scenes in the video "that's galadriel's mirror etc." Alice and Lisa look lost as Alice has also just started the books.

We head to the train station use the Internet phone to post on the club and then say goodbye to Eledhwen. Decide we may as well wait for everyone to come out so head off to the pub for a while, promptly trip on my poster as we come out of the pub and land on my knees in the middle of Leicester Square but it's OK the poster wasn't hurt but carrying a huge cardboard poster gets irritating rather quickly

Head back to the cinema and find a position just outside the door and wait some more. Ruby wax heads out about an hour before the film is due to finish no idea why though. We decide the film must finish about 10.30 but at 10.15 Ian McKellan comes out (guess he couldn't be bothered with the end) he signs happily and chats to people I don't manage to get his autograph myself but I talked to him so I'm happy enough.

10.30 and John Rhys Davies comes out and signs (again no autograph for me) he spoke to us all and we asked him how it was and he said "very scary film, I'm in it and it even scares me" great guy, lovely bloke very impressed. Suddenly all the celebrities start pouring out of doors all over the place not just the main doors but fire exits too. They all come out Sean Astin waves and blows kisses at everyone, the band Liberty come out and the girl standing next to me shouts and she completely ignore Elijah walking out and being pushed in a car she then precedes to spend the next 5 minutes asking why he hasn't come out yet and pronouncing his name wrong every single time, get so fed up of her I just shout he went 5 minutes ago and his name is ELIJAH for god's sake ELIJAH. she promptly shuts up and moans that she hadn't seen him (seems everyone of us shouting Elijah when he came out wasn't clue enough for her).

AHHHHHHH

Dominic, Billy, Sean Bean and everyone else comes out followed by Orlando. Immediately we all start shouting Orlando at him and he just looks and waves, it all goes quite so I shout at the top of my voice "ORLI!" and he looks and comes jogging over. How impressed am I? he grabs a pen and signs my board my pen is dying and it comes out rather faint oh well it's still there wow! He signs for others too, I say to him about the Big Breakfast he looks up smiles and says he's sorry. (OMG that smile is hot and I still love his voice) He heads off I moan about having used all my film up before he came out. Doh! The guy standing next to us who seems to be a big autograph collector (says he has over 3000) thanks me for getting Orlando over. I just smile realising that it was because I'd shouted that he'd come over, how happy am I?

They head off seems everyone has gone but still no sign of my A1 boys just as I say this to my friend out walks Mark cue big shout from me, Mark runs straight over says he was looking for me over the other side and complains that I'd moved bless him. He tells us what he thought of the film "It's spectacular, I love it it's really, really good you'll love it" I tell him I hate him for seeing it before me, he laughs. I notice he has the press thing in his hand and as if I can have it and he says "You know I would, but I can't coz I got it signed" by who I ask immediately. He hands it over and says by this guy here as he point at a Gandalf picture. I tell him it's Ian McKellan and he just smiles and says "He was amazing". Have a nice chat with Mark find out what he's up to and tease him with one of our long running jokes and he heads off to the car and we head of to the train station. Get back to Euston and on my train home I suddenly realise that I've just seen the ENTIRE fellowship and spoken to half of them. and then realise that I MET ORLANDO BLOOM, Become very happy and chirpy and bouncy and quickly ring my friend tell her I met Orli and fill her in Mark (coz she knows him too). A fantastic day after all and the bad luck at the beginning didn't mean a thing.

I go home a VERY happy White Lady Of Rohan
